The ISES-NCC "Members Only" event at the The Parlor in San Francisco. Our live Picasso painting provided some artistic diversion while members schmoozed and enjoyed the free refreshments. The painting by Picasso is actually of Marie Therese Walker, who became the painter's mistress at a scandalously young age. The juicy details of their relationship added to the fun, and a palette of paint attached to the reproduction allowed guests to add their touches to the masterpiece. Michael Saylor, man about town, and co-founder of MicroStrategy, decided to throw a party on July 3rd. He called it the "Red, White, and Blue Beach Blast!" The venue was the Sequoia Restaurant. Cast of Thousands was summoned to round up some fun characters and we happily obliged. Our crew included Uncle Sam on Stilts, George Washington, Lady Liberty, a living statue, a henna artist, a fire dancer, cirque dancer and hula hoop twirler on stilts, and even a silouette artist -- and all on a day's notice!

Political faux: Washington’s power players work hard to perfect an image — and so do their impersonators.

Two men in dark suits, hands to their earpieces, hurry through the crowd of partygoers. The guests — in town for a dental convention at the downtown Marriott — cast quizzical glances at them as they disappear up an escalator. When the men reappear, they’re just as serious. But this time, they’re not alone. Behind them is another man, about 6 feet tall, with a confident stance and wide grin, accompanied by an elegant woman. Immediately, eyes turn and whispers are traded.

It’s a mistake that Larry Graves counts on. The 56-year-old has the president’s height and build, and his voice carries the same rhythmic quality. Both are left-handed. Graves makes slight alterations to his appearance — thickens his eyebrows, adds a mole, uses body wax to get his ears to protrude ever so slightly. But in the right suit, the right light, he causes double takes.
To be a celebrity impersonator, however, it’s not enough to just resemble a famous figure, says Jan Kearney, owner of the McLean-based agency Cast of Thousands. “Of course, that’s a big help, but they have to have a kind of spark or personality that is similar in charisma or feeling that you would have if you were with the actual celebrity.”
The District is a popular destination for professional conferences and corporate events, and Cast of Thousands hires impersonators out to groups that want to add a little pizazz to their gatherings. The look-alikes will stand for photo ops, give speeches tailored to the event’s theme, improvise conversations as they mingle with guests. Rates for an in-character appearance vary depending on the doppelganger and the event, and can be anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 per performance.
These actors are the closest many visitors will ever get to being in the presence of our nation’s biggest decision makers. Some event-goers get a thrill out of the chance to trick family members back home with photos of themselves with “famous people”; others take the opportunity to praise or criticize as though the impersonator were the real deal. “I think people kind of enjoy the joke of being fooled, even if it’s for a few seconds,” Kearney says.
She says Cast of Thousands draws from the city’s active theater community to find versatile actors who can improvise and are eager for a side gig. Bob Heck is one of those people. “You’ll always get work here,” says Heck, whose oeuvre includes Washinton-friendly characters such as Bill Clinton and Larry King. “It’s a smaller talent pool, so it’s an advantage if you can do lots of things.”
And although Brad Pitt and Lindsay Lohan look-alikes might rule in star-saturated cities such as New York and Los Angeles, impersonators in political roles — from Obama to the Clintons to the Roosevelts — have carved out a niche in Washington.
It was a gang of fourth-graders that got Graves — who lives in Gaithersburg and is a substitute teacher and model by day — into the business.
During the 2008 campaign, “I had half of them out at recess asking me for autographs,” Graves says. “I hear at least three or four times a week: ‘You look like Obama.’ I just basically say thank you. It’s a compliment; I have no problem with it.”

There are parties, and then there is Jillian Manus and Alan Salzman’s “Channeling Love 2011” extravaganza to benefit Stanford Hospital Cancer Center. Now in its sixth year, the Valentine’s party is about as over-the-top as a benefit gets, always full of surprises, always with an irreverent theme, and always for the same worthy cause inspired by Salzman’s mother Helen, a three-time cancer survivor. This year it was all about 70’s TV shows, in all of their cheesy dialogue and bad hair glory. For those of us who spent our after-school hours riveted by our friends Starsky, Charlie, Gilligan, Rhoda, and Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, it was an amazing experience to walk into scenes we had only stared at, glassy-eyed, on our Magnavox.

Manus and Salzman abundantly underwrite the at-home affair, and then planner extraordinaire Robert Fountain makes the magic happen on Channels 2,4,5,7 and 44. (Anyone under thirty is completely confused at this point, serves you right for not remembering “what a bummer” black and white TV was.) Guests arrived on the balmy night in Atherton to Love Boat-attired valets and Rod Serling entering the Twilight Zone, which turned into a psychedelic inflatable walkway flanked by a dozen old school portable televisions beaming their cathode-tubed Jeffersons, Charlie’s Angels, Maude, and The Brady Bunch into the night.

As you approached the front door, there was the entire burgundy polyester-clad Partridge Family performing in front of their primary colored tour bus, waking up in Love this Morning and Went to Sleep with You on My Mind. (Where have you gone, David Cassidy?) Just inside the foyer, Archie Bunker was puffing on his stogie in his threadbare chair, while Edith plonked away at the upright. The Beverly Hillbillies colonized the dining room and installed a bourbon bar and their laundry fresh from washing in the cee-ment pond. Panch and Jon from CHiPs have removed their shirts and would incarcerate you upon request, and Laverne and Shirley have a game of beer pong lined up in the brewery. If you made it to the island, Gilligan was mixing potent boat drinks in the blender and providing a live parrot for your shoulder, which primed you for Bob Eubanks recruiting you and your date for The Newlywed Game, where you’ll admit to “making whoopee” in unusual venues. The Adams Family, including Lurch, Cousin It, and Thing invite you to the library for a glass of port, to be drunk at your peril. But first you had to visit the Saturday Night Live Samurai sushi bar, staffed by the Blues Brothers and a conehead from France. Meanwhile, over at the disco, Jillian Salzman, dressed in a fabulous white sparkly number asI-Dream-of- Jeannie channeling Cher, began the dance party in a tent that looked suspiciously like the inside of her bottle, Major Nelson be damned. If the Moroccan-themed buffet from McCalls’s wasn’t enough, you could always see how Lucy was doing in the candy factory with the conveyor belt, or just retreat to the powder room where Scottie has beamed up some Tribbles.

Even guests who’d seen it all, including, Attorney General Kamala Harris, philanthropist Tim Wu, and lots and lots of under-the-radar VC types, had never seen anything like this, regardless of how many channels their flatscreens had at home. And with a cool $600K raised for the Cancer Center, there’s a lot of love to be channeled. David Cassidy was onto something: Manus, Salzman – I think I love you.

Our Obama lookalike featured in a TV commercial in Hong Kong!

The call came in just before the Christmas holidays: An advertising agency in Hong Kong requested our Obama lookalike for a Kentucky Fried Chicken TV commercial. How could we refuse? Later, we got lots of emails from friends saying the ad got featured on news programs. Turns out the KFC parent company pulled the ad when some folks thought it was objectionable. Well, it aired right before Chinese President Hu's visit to the White House. Oh well, we thought it was all in good fun! What do you think?

They bantered with guests, and added to the nostalgic festivities at the annual benefit for Stanford University's Cancer Center.

Our Moon Maiden welcomes guests to the National Building Museum.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company and a cast of distinguished performers from the worlds of dance, opera and classical music paid tribute to William Shakespeare's Italy. Under the gracious patronage of His Excellency the British Ambassador and Lady Sheinwald, the 2010 Gala also featured the presentation of the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre and the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts.

Recognized as "Washington's Most Buzzed About Gala" (Washington Life), the evening ends with a walk down the red carpet to dinner and dancing in the National Building Museum, where our Moon Maiden was on hand to welcome the
arriving guests.

Ladies and Gentlemen and children of all ages! The Washingtonian Magazine really knows how to throw a party! On July 21 their annual "Best of Washington" party filled the National Building Museum with a circus theme, to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Great restaurants showed off their signature dishes, lots of games to play, and lucky us --we got to be a part of it all!

We really brought the theme to life with our best circus performers. We had a fire eater and a carnival barker greeting guests as they arrived. Inside, we had three clowns, a juggler and two stilt walkers. Special thanks to Tony Brown who generously shared his great photos of our performers.

Like they say, a tough job but somebody has to do it. We were hired to portray the spaced out characters from the movie "The Hangover" who were supposedly in San Francisco to see the Giants vs. the Dodgers. First a pub crawl to various beer joints near AT&T Park, then various stunts at the game itself. Many many people got the joke right away, and burst out laughing before any of the characters even said the first word. The big hit was the baby "Carlos!" So the actors got to perform on the Jumbotron for an audience of thousands, and poor things, had to kiss for the "Kiss Cam" also on the Jumbotron. And they still want to be paid?????

On July 1, at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, a private party celebrated the opening of a new exhibit of Norman Rockwell paintings, on loan from the collections of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Cast of Thousands provided "living paintings" for the event. It was fantastic, and Mr. Spielberg even took photos of our performers on his cell phone! Wow!

Our company provided the dashing Ringmaster on your left, plus a fire eater, sword swallower, and stilt walker for the "Circus" section and a fetching show girl accompanied by a cheesy Elvis for the "Vegas" section.

This event, with its international theme, gave us an opportunity to fill the ballroom with lots of wonderful performers. The Asian section featured our fantastic paper cutter, as well as Chinese Ribbon and Fan dancers. Martha Washington and a singing harpist enlivened the America section.

The strange guy with the broom is the "Fool" character from Commedia dell'Arte. He added some silly fun to the Italian section. And our low key mime charmed even the most mime-phobic guests with his bubbles and whimsy. A stilt walker, with his very long strides, was able to cross borders and greet guests in all the various regions.

They were all there to entertain at the "Fabulous Women" luncheon held every year, to honor women of outstanding achievment. James Bond charmed them as they played casino games, Queen Elizabeth I gave a brief talk, and Marie Antoinette served cupcakes. Fun times!

This was the opening of the New York Avenue Sculpture Project for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The sculptures in this exhibit are by Nikki de Saint Phalle. They wanted colorful cirque inspired performers for their reception celebrating the opening of the New York Avenue Sculpture Project. Susan Davis International was the company who booked us to provide the entertainment. We provided a strolling magician, New Vaudeville Performer, The Amazing Paper Cutter, and created custom living statues inspired by the "Three Graces" sculpture.

Cast of Thousands added to the pull-out-all-the-stops fun at this fund raiser in a private home in Atherton, California. Our vintage Game Show Host had everyone screaming with laughter in the very naughty "Truth or Dare" game in the library. Our French maid rounded out the cast of the Clue game, dusting off a dead body in the foyer as the guests entered. And in the Vegas style "men only" casino, our gorgeous showgirl offered a warm welcome! KRON 4 tv was there, filming it all. Watch for "Red Carpet, Bay Area" coming in March!

On Friday, January 15th, we were thrilled to learn that we were part of the team that won this year's prestigious "Special Events Gala" award for the Builders Ball, held in Washington DC, at the National Building Museum. The award was presented at the annual conference hosted by Special Events Magazine, this year in New Orleans. The category was "Best Fundraiser/Gala." Our client was Kelley Gillespie of GEM events, for the theme "The Elements of Surprise: Earth, Fire, Water and Air." We provided interactive performers for each of the four elements. Pictured above is the "Water Dancer" on stilts. The Builders Ball raises money for various charities in the Washington DC area.

When Cliff and Melissa sang the couple's favorite arias by Puccini, the crowd rose to their feet shouting BRAVO!

The finale featured the electronic cellist playing while the fire dancers and a fire eater whirled around the dance floor. The room was "ignited" with excitement. Guests were yelling and loudly whistling, and some even got into act!

The guests at the party rose to their feet, shouting "BRAVO" many times during a fabulous evening at the incredible Castello di Amorosa on Saturday night. The occasion was a surprise birthday party a very devoted husband threw for his wife! A jester and guitarist kept the guests amused while they waited for the guest of honor.

An electronic cellist played the host's favorite pieces while the guests entered the Great Hall.

Is your event worth crashing? The Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority were the latest victims of these audacious wanna-bes! They slipped by security with ease, and were surprisingly greeted with squeals of delight. Everyone (including the happy guests pictured here) wanted their photo op with these two. The "Party Crashers" were happy to oblige, then loaded up from the buffet table, and borrowed cab fare for the ride home. Aren't they just amazing?

Amelia Earhart, along with Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and Leonardo DaVinci added spark to a technical conference at Stanford University in September. At the Cantor Art Museum, they directed attendees from a reception into a party room where there was a great band from Innovative Entertainment (how appropriate!) The client was "very pleased" and so were we!

Today's lesson: Remember to feed the performers

We did twelve events, from coast to coast, this weekend! Huge company picnic in Maryland, kept going joyfully inspite of the heavy downpour! Obama look-alike appeared at a fundraiser for an African charity, and was inspiring and inspired! Our Clinton impersonator kept them laughing at a small party on the Potomac, while our Robin Leach impersonator was a hit at a 50th birthday party. Lion Dancers rocked at the California Academy of Sciences on Saturday. Then on Sunday, a Chinese dance troupe at Cal. Academy. A safari theme for a toddler on his first birthday, where the only mishap was a llama eating a potted plant. Juggler on stilts for a retail store, face painters at the Smithsonian, lovely women handing out chips at a casino party, spies at the Spy Museum, and a face painters at a Farmers' Market.

Did I leave anything out????

Neither did I, till I saw Bronkar perform! Yesterday he showed off his unique skills, compliments of Cast of Thousands, to an audience of ISES-Northern California members at the beautiful Fox Theater in Oakland. He rocked.

Strolling Buffet and Cigarette Girl at Roe Restaurant

A big internet conference was in town, and it was wall to wall techies (mostly male) at the trendy Roe Restaurant, in SOMA, San Francisco. The guys were talking excitedly about servers, usb's and quad cores...so, a feminine touch was needed!

Enter the strolling live buffet and a perky cigarette girl, colors coordinated, per client request, with the Roe decor. (And natch, we were handing out chocolates, not cigarettes!)

Our Bay Area Marilyn was the surprise ingredient of a recent birthday dinner in a posh neighborhood of San Francisco. We customized the performance to specifically honor the "Man About Town."

Strolling Buffets add colorful fun!

At a recent event, at our favorite Bay Area venue (California Academy of Sciences) we provided three strolling buffet tables to match some of the attractions of the Academy. Butterflies flutter not only in the 4 story rain forest, but on the grassy "living roof" as well. We also created a Moon table and a Stars table, to signify the amazing planetarium. And the grape vines on stilts were also back by popular demand!

I met Steve on a recent visit to DC and found him to be absolutely terrific! A wonderful, warm hearted person who is very easy to get to know and who obviously adores Pamela. We are all very very very happy for Pamela and Steve.

Hotel W comes to DC!

We had the honor and the extreme fun to be a part of staff training at the new Hotel W. On the first day of training we offered Abe Lincoln on stilts welcoming the new trainees in Pershing Park, directly in front of the newly renovated hotel. They followed Abe to the hotel for a reception including Marie Antoinette costumed as a strolling buffet table, and a very sexy version of George Washington.

On the last day of training, the trainees were entertained by our Obama lookalike, Secret Service agents, sexy George, a body builder "Colonial Gentleman," and a feminine version of sexy George based on the Cindy Crawford cover of the former "George" magazine.

We are excited that this hip new venue, only a block from the White House, is going to be a great new addition to the events scene in Washington DC!

Dancin' Through the Decades!

On June 9, Pamela Burton produced a dance show on stage at the National Portrait Gallery, for an international audience. She pulled in some top talents from the world of popular dance, and crafted the various acts into a seamless "Dancin' Through the Decades" production. Starting in the 50s with nationally known Lindy and Swing dancers, and then moving to the 60s with slick tap dancing to "Mr. Bojangles," performed by a former cast member of "Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk." Next up, the 70s, with world champion Hustle dancers performing their hot version of "Disco Inferno," followed by an amazing display of break dancing and hip hop from the 80s/90s. The show concluded with a rousing finish, when the entire ensemble, in red, white and blue costumes, danced to James Brown's "Living in America!"

Pamela had a great time, and had high praise for Jerry Jeffries of GEP Washington, his staff, the venue, and the vendors: All Stage and Sound, Atmosphere Lighting, Event Digital Photography, and Jenny Lehman Videography.

Pamela said, "Jerry was a dream to work with. He truly trusts his vendors. We gave him our best to produce a great result." For those of us in the event business, when all the pieces fit together, it's such a great pleasure!

In Memoriam: Gladys Jacobson

We are very sad to announce that on May 21st, Allison's mom, Gladys Jacobson, passed away after a long struggle with cancer. In the 11 years that Allison has been a part of Cast of Thousands, her mom has played a role from time to time. When we got swamped, she helped out in the office, answering the phone, and helping clients. Her background in real estate came in handy thanks to her excellent training in customer service! She also lent a hand at events now and then, in the dressing room, or just helping out wherever needed. And we always thought of her as a true friend of our company.

We will miss her, her warm hospitality and caring nature, and we know that her close-knit family will be missing her very deeply.

"Newspaper Man" wows guests at Newseum

Ever hear of a statue getting a standing ovation? It happened recently at Washington's most interactive museum, The Newseum! Our living statue was covered in newsprint, and posed reading a newspaper absolutely still. He would surprise passersby by suddenly putting down the paper, and waving, or tipping his hat. When his time on the pedestal was done, and he came down from his perch, he was very suprised to see all the guests standing and applauding for him. Thanks to Kelley Gillespie, of CSI-DC, our client, and kudos to our performer,Tim, our costumer, Anne Gorman, and the photographer, Jack Hartzman of Washington Talent Photography and Video.

Carnival Theme at L2 Lounge for ISES Benefit for SEARCH Foundation

Last week we were able to provide entertainment for an event close to our hearts. The DC ISES Spring Reception at L2 Lounge, raising money for the SEARCH Foundation. We provided a fortune teller, carnival barker and sword swallower, bringing the event's theme to life!

The happy client said, "...without them, I don't think people would have even known that it was supposed to be a carnival! You made that event what it was, and everyone had tons of fun. So, thank you so much. We raised a ton of money for SEARCH!"

Earth Day Weekend at California Academy of Sciences

We were so happy to be included in a "pull out all the stops" children's event at the Ritz Carlton, Tysons Corner. The celebration, designed by Levine Fox Events from Los Angeles, honored two little girls, one turning 2 and one turning 4. Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder version) was the theme, and the whole event was a sugar lover's dream. We provided three adorable Ooompa Loompas, a candy sculptor, face painters, various characters, a balloon twister, a paper cutter artist, a fantastic bubble artist, and lots lots more! Everyone, including Pamela and Kathleen our fabulous on site producers, had an absolutely unforgettably wonderful time!

This year's Leukemia Ball was all about "Painting the Town Red." We added a bright touch at the very beginning of the party: two dashing red caped gentlemen to welcome arriving guests. This fabulous annual event, held at the Washington Convention Center, is always a lavish affair, and raises money for a worthy cause. The photo above was featured in the recent edition of Biz Bash DC, a e-zine devoted to the DC events scene.

Key West Theme at West Belmont Place

We were invited to add to the fun at a client party hosted by Sharon Meyers of the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Virginia. The NCC was showing off its new ballroom at West Belmont Place, and wanted a light hearted theme to take everyone's mind of the current economic situation. Our interactive characters included a couple of "Tacky Tourists" loaded down with cameras, guide books, and the requisite black socks being worn with shorts! An Island Greeter on stilts welcomed everyone and surprised them with his "air cannon" that shot foam balls high in the air. He also wore a big rubber ducky flotation device and led everyone on a hilarious conga line. Joe the Beach Comber had a bag of silly trinkets which he tried to trade for nice jewelry and watches worn by some of the guests. (They didn't fall for it, by the way!)

Here's what Sharon had to say after the event: "The Tacky Tourists, Joe the Beach Comber & The Island Greeter were the perfect blend of characters for our 2nd annual Client Event - Beach Party Theme! All of the guests really enjoyed them wondering through the crowd. It is always great working with you & your company!"

Crystal City becomes Emerald City

We recently added a theatrical touch to the annual benefit for Arena Stage in Crystal City. In the photo above, our Wizard of Oz characters are posing with Mitchell Schear, Charles E. Smith President, and Angie Fox, Crystal City Business Improvement District President. The fund raiser was held to benefit Arena's enrichment programs that serve 20,000 kids!

As most of you know, Arena stage is now mounting productions in two venues, one in Crystal City, at 1800 South Bell Street, Arlington, VA 22202, and at the Lincoln Theater, 1215 U Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009. These wonderful stages are being used while the new Mead Center for American Theater is being constructed on Arena's site at 6th and Maine St., SW.

At Cast of Thousands we all share a love of the stage, so we were more than happy to take part in this wonderful fundraiser for such a worthy cause: bringing the joy of theater to young people in the DC area.

The Greater Washington DC ISES chapter recently announced the nominees for this year's Capital Awards, and we are nominated, not once, not twice, but three times!

A corporate holiday party is up for "Best Entertainment Production" for "An Enchanting Holiday Brunch." Pictured above is our delightful Sugar Plum Fairy. At the brunch, she was joined by many other enchanting performers, including a stage show, craft activities, photo ops, visits with Santa, story time with Mrs. Claus and a whole team of sketch artists.

The second nomination is for "Best ISES Team," for a corporate event entitled "The Elements of Surprise." The photo is of a dancer depicting the element of water in a flowing costume designed for the occasion. Our characters portrayed the elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire, bringing the client's theme to life in imaginative and colorful performances. Congratulations to all the other team members, and our client Kelly Gillespie of CSI-DC.

The third nomination is also for "Best ISES Team" and this event's theme was "An Evening in Tuscany." Cast of Thousands provided a living statue pouring wine, two "Fools" in the spirit of Commedia dell'Arte, and some costumed caricature artists. Hats off to the other fabulous team members, especially our client Ayran Kanter of Eventscapes.

Our "Obama" endorses Las Vegas

Our Obama lookalike dropped by "Strike Bethesda" on Tuesday, not to bowl, but to schmooze with 300 members of the PCMA. The fun party was hosted by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association, and the "Prez" put in a good word for Las Vegas as a great place for meetings.

He reminded the event and meeting planners that Las Vegas is the #1 destination in the country for meetings and conventions. Here's why: Not just the flashy shows and casinos! Las Vegas has 6.7 million square feet of convention space, and an additional 3 million square feet at individual properties. Last year 22,454 conventions and meetings came to Las Vegas!

These meetings pumped 8.5 billion dollars into the economy. We call that some kind of stiumulus! And oh yes, lest we forget--Las Vegas is FUN!

One of the many reasons I love my job, besides working with some of the greatest octopi and jellyfish in show business, is where we get to perform.

Last year, the California Academy of Sciences opened up in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Or should I say re-opened after years of extensive renovation.

What an amazing place! Butterflies fluttering on the grassy rooftop, while all sorts of sea creatures swim in the basement aquarium...a white crocodile near the back entrance, and a four story rain forest in between.

Our company was lucky enough to perform at several of the pre-opening parties, and has returned for more special events since then. The Jellyfish and Octopus are fun stilt characters who seem to fit right in with the spirit of the place.

The Academy isn't just a great place to learn about our environment--it's also a great place for a party!

"It's a tough job, but..."

Poor Pam! She had to work last night, and couldn't be home watching "American Idol." But she didn't seem to mind the sacrifice, for some reason!

The event was a corporate gathering at The Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, DC. Pam had a wonderful time, obviously, but it wasn't just the fabulous talent. She said that the staff at the Four Seasons was exceptionally outstanding. Kudos to a great team led by Jenelle Lombardo, who made the whole experience a total pleasure.

Our performers entertained the guests during cocktails with a cirque style ribbon dancer and stiltwalker. During dinner, and between courses, the acrobats wowed the audience, as did as our snazzy poi dancers, using led lights and hoops, and a lovely contortionist. Yes, our work does have its rewards!

Thriving, not just surviving, in hard times

We've been through bad times before. After 9-11, when every event on our calendar was cancelled, we came up with the idea of entertaining the people in security lines at the airport. Baltimore Washington International Airport hired us, and soon Groucho, Marilyn, Austin Powers, jugglers, clowns, and magicians were helping relieve the tension in the long lines of travelers. Those gigs helped pay the bills from October to Christmas. The press covered it, on the front page of the Washington Post, and our performers were even featured on the BBC!

Here we go again! Events being scaled down or cancelled. Big annual events that come around each year, whittled down to almost nothing. What to do? What's going to happen?

One thing I know is that fear is just not very conducive to creativity. After 9-11, I kept reading what other people were doing, what other opportunities might be hidden in the dire circumstances confronting us.

I searched around online today and found an encouraging article by Erick Weiss, of Honeysweet Productions in L A. In the article he quoted Dennis Perkins, author "Leading at the Edge." Perkins describes the challenges faced by Ernest Shackleton in his exploration of the South Pole, and defines what it takes to be a leader during difficult times. Here are his "10 Strategies for Success:"

1. Never lose site of the ultimate goal, and focus energy on short-term objectives.

2. Set a personal example with visible, memorable symbols, and behaviors.

3. Instill optimism and self-confidence, but stay grounded in reality.

4. Take care of yourself: Maintain your stamina and let go of guilt.

5. Reinforce the team message constantly: "We are one -- we live or die together."

6. Minimize status differences and insist on courtesy and mutual respect.

7. Master conflict--deal with anger in small doses, engage dissidents, and avoid power struggles.

8. Find something to celebrate and something to laugh about.

9. Be willing to take the Big Risk.

10. Never give up--there's always another move.

Obama Lookalike appears at Inaugural events!

Our Obama lookalike was a hit at a corporate Inaugural event, hosted by a pharmaceutical company.

Along with his Secret Service agents, our Barack "double" caused quite a stir. Then, when he attended another ball as a guest, someone spotted him and thought he was the "real" Barack! This incident made it into an article in the Washington Post the next day.
